Purton Hulks
Purton Hulks is home to the finest collection of small wooden ships in the country considered to be the largest ships' graveyard in maritime Britain.
The hulks have been featured on BBC TV's Coast and Countryfile and are commemorated with a plaque listing all the ships identified.
Experts consider this the finest collection of small wooden ships in the country, with remains of barges, trows and schooners that were "hulked" to prevent erosion of the Sharpness Canal from the River Severn.
These wooden ships represent the birth of British industry supplying coal to the blast furnaces of Ironbridge and then transporting finished good around the world.
Some of these Hulks are over 110 years old and are a monument to those long dead ship builders and a way of life long gone.

Purton Hulks are about 2 miles from Tudor Caravan Park - an easy walk or safe bicycle ride along the Gloucester-Sharpness canal. There is no entry fee as the hulks lie right alongside the canal.
